The ice accretion model used in this study was inspired by Messiger's model [3], which has been applied for other CFD icing applications especially for aircraft purposes [13]. Yirtici et al. predicted ice build-up on two different aerofoil sections using a 2-D ice accretion prediction tool and validated it with experimental data of ice shapes available in the literature. Homola et al. [ 9 ] investigated performance losses due to ice accretion on the NREL 5 MW wind turbine model and simulated icing on five sections Cited by: 1. The water film and ice accretion computational model used in this paper is mainly based on the FAM included in the FOAM-extend CFD code, which was first proposed by Tuković and Jasak [31,32]. The basic computational process of FAM has been illustrated in Ref.. Different with SWIM, all the conservation equations of the mass, momentum and Author: Qiang Wang, Jingping Xiao, Tingting Zhang, Jianjun Yang, Yu Shi. In order to research the law of rime ice accretion on different scaling blades surface, a new rime ice scaling method was proposed in this research. According to previous research, there are three kinds of ice types on blade surfaces: rime ice, glaze ice and mixed ice. Under the condition of rime ice, both the freezing fraction and the coefficient of heat transfer between super-cold water Cited by: 2.

A wind turbine, or alternatively referred to as a wind energy converter, is a device that converts the wind's kinetic energy into electrical energy.. Wind turbines are manufactured in a wide range of vertical and horizontal axis. The smallest turbines are used for applications such as battery charging for auxiliary power for boats or caravans or to power traffic warning signs. The presentation follows a logical sequence, starting with the icing climate and meteorological conditions, proceeding through development of observations and models of accretion and release of ice and heavy snow, then considering static and dynamic mechanical loads, the effects of ice and snow on electrical insulation, de-icing, ice prevention. DELICE methodology adjustments are shown that lead to CH test data correlation and improved correlation to previously-examined SA™ icing flight test performance data. Finally, a comparison of results between GRP and Sikorsky-Maryland FreeWake is shown, providing an indication of the influence of rotor wake methodology on icing model. First, a mold is made directly from ice accretion in the icing wind tunnel. Then, artificial ice accretion is cast from the mold. This method maintains nearly all the three-dimensionality and surface details of ice. This technique generates valuable benchmark for icing research (Broeren et al., , Broeren et al., , Papadakis et al., ).Cited by:

The ice shape and profile of ice accretion obtained in atmospheric icing laboratory were investigated with variable air temperature. The icing object was exposed to the one aerosol cloudfreezing rain. a rotor test device for vertical-horizontal conversion is designed. The effects of unbalanced mass, dynamic balance position and other. This work introduces an approach allowing the detailed replication of ice shapes generated in icing wind tunnels, with a special focus on complex and strongly varying ice structures, e.g., ice feathers or residual ice stemming from incomplete removal of accreted ice by ice protection systems. 3D-scans are used as an input for the manufacturing process of the ice shape replica.   The effect of wings leading edge ice accretion on the landing distance of commuter class aircraft in remote high terrain operation was obtained with the help of LEWICE code for ice shape predictions and XFLR5 for airfoil polar data prediction. The ice accretion process occurred within various icing atmospheric conditions based on Icing Design. the effect of ice accretion on wing and stabilizer on aircraft performance: teymourazov r: kofman v: p: 4: the physical limitations of the "see and avoid" concept for separation of air traffic: popp p t: f: 3: the safety data warehouse and safety information delivery: a vital tool in air safety: nicholas d: stray a: p: 4.
